Programs

– Youth Thriving in Life Transitions with Transportation

The Youth Thriving in Life Transitions with Transportation program is designed to promote safe driving education and practices among youth, highlighting the vital role of transportation safety and science in their health, education, and employment as they transition to young adulthood.

Some program components include:

  • Workshops and Educational Experiences: Engaging activities and presentations to enhance young driver safety knowledge and behavior.
  • Professional Driver Training: Hands-on course to equip youth with safe driving skills and behaviors.
  • Community and School Outreach: Educational presentations and participation in community partnership events.
  • Parent and Youth Messaging: Focused communication on transportation safety and its connection to health, education, and employment opportunities.

This program empowers youth with the skills and knowledge needed for safe, successful, and fruitful transitions into young adulthood.

– UC Traffic Safety Collaborative

The UC Traffic Safety Collaborative is program leveraging multidisciplinary expertise across several UC The UC Traffic Safety Collaborative is program leveraging multidisciplinary expertise across several UC campuses in medicine, injury prevention and transportation science, health behavior, engineering, public health, and driving simulation science to address serious crash injuries and fatalities on California roadways.

  • UC Berkeley Safe Transportation Research & Education Center (Safe TREC)
  • UC San Diego Transportation Research and Education for Driving Safety (TREDS)
  • UC Irvine B3 DrivSim Lab and the UCI led National DrivSim Consortium

Some program components include:

  • Broaden and Leverage Expertise: Capitalize on the UCI led National DrivSim Consortium to use driving simulation science to expand young driver safety behavior programs and efforts.
  • Establish the UC Traffic Safety Collaborative: Solidify workings of the UC Traffic Safety Collaborative work that will be California-centric in traffic injury prevention and road safety.
  • Focus Groups:  Conduct focus group of teen drivers and of parents of teen drivers with discussions about teen driving after drinking and teen recurrent driving after drinking (TR-DAD)
  • Best Practice Prevention: Begin to construct best practice TR-DAD prevention skills and tools for youth and parents
